As a large controlling steak holder, E.L. Cord became the president of the Auburn Automobile Company (AAC) in 1926.
Three years later, in 1929, the Cord Corporation was established and became the parent company of the AAC. In that same year, the first Cord automobile was created and sold across the United States.
Over the last 90 years, the automotive passion in the Cord family name has lived on and has now found its way to Orange County, California.
In 2005, William H. Cord and Robert Crandall founded Cord Automotive Light Alloy Accessories.
Originally, Cord Automotive specialized in aftermarket steel and aluminum accessories. During this period, Cord became a large running board supplier for the Toyota Motors North America. The company later made the decision to focus strictly on OE services, and condensed the company name to Cord Automotive International Inc.
Over the past 15 years Cord Automotive has directly or indirectly supplied products to Toyota Motor Sales USA, Toyota Canada Inc, Toyota Tusho America Inc, Gulf States Toyota Inc, South East Toyota LLC, Ford Motor Company, Nissan Motor Company, Mitsubishi Motor Company, Roush Industries, and the traditional automotive aftermarket.
In 2022, Cord moved all operations to Mesquite, TX to join the Vehicle Accessory Group. 900,000 square feet of manufacturing space and a growing portfolio gives Cord an opportunity to take on more customers and even more projects.
Cord Automotive is ISO compliant and a proud customer of Toyota Motors North American and Mazda North American Operations.
